What is e-signature software?

E-signature software lets you sign documents electronically instead of printing, signing by hand, and scanning them back. You upload or create a document, send it to the other person, and they add a legally valid signature from any device - in a browser, with no account or app to install.

TechoStop's e-signatures are built into your client portal, so contracts live right next to the client, project, and invoices they belong to. You can turn a plain PDF or a block of text into a signable document, share it by link, email, or by assigning it directly to a client or team member, and watch its status change from awaiting to signed in real time.

Every completed signature is recorded with a timestamp and the signer's details, and the finished, signed PDF is saved securely so you always have proof the agreement was accepted.

Why e-signatures are a necessity for freelancers and small agencies

Start work the same day

Turn around a signed agreement in minutes instead of days. Your client signs from their phone and you begin.

Protect yourself on every project

A signed scope, retainer, or NDA is your safety net if a client disputes the work later.

Look established and professional

A clean, branded signing experience makes a solo freelancer or small studio look as polished as a large firm.

Stop paying for a separate tool

E-signatures are included in your TechoStop plan, so it is one less subscription for a lean business to carry.

Keep contracts with the client

Signing lives inside the portal, so the signed PDF sits next to that client's projects, invoices, and files.

Always know where things stand

See at a glance which documents are awaiting a signature and which are done.

How to send a document for e-signature

  1. Open E-Documents and create a document. From your dashboard, go to E-Documents and click Create Document - your home base for every contract, proposal, and NDA, with live counts of what has been created, shared, and signed.
  2. Upload a PDF or write the document. Give the document a title, then either upload an existing PDF (up to 1.5MB) or switch to Create Text and type the agreement directly - TechoStop turns your text into a clean, signable PDF.
  3. Send it for signature. Open the Share menu and choose how the document reaches the signer: copy a secure link, email it directly, or assign it to a specific client or employee so it appears inside their own portal.
  4. Your client signs online. The signer opens the document in their browser, clicks where the signature goes, and either types their name in a signature font or draws it with a mouse or finger. No login, no software to install.
  5. Track status and download the signed PDF. Back in the Shared tab, each document shows a live status - Awaiting signature or Signed. Once signed, preview it or download the final, timestamped PDF for your records.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TechoStop's e-signature software free?

Yes. E-signatures are included on TechoStop's free-forever Starter plan with no credit card required, subject to starter limits on how many documents you can create and share. Paid Business and Enterprise plans raise those limits as your business grows.

Are electronic signatures legally binding?

In most countries, electronic signatures are legally recognized for the vast majority of business agreements such as proposals, retainers, and NDAs. TechoStop records each signature with a timestamp and the signer's details and stores the completed PDF, giving you a clear record that the document was accepted. For high-stakes or regulated documents, check the specific requirements in your jurisdiction.

Does my client need an account to sign?

No. When you share a document by link, the recipient simply opens it in their browser and signs - no account, no app, and no installation. You can also assign a document to an existing client or employee so it appears inside their portal.

Can I sign on a phone?

Yes. The signing page works in any modern mobile browser. Signers can type their name in a signature font or draw their signature with a finger, so the experience is smooth on phones, tablets, and computers alike.

What types of documents can I send for signature?

You can upload an existing PDF (up to 1.5MB) or write the document as text and let TechoStop convert it into a signable PDF. It is ideal for proposals, service agreements, retainers, statements of work, NDAs, and consent forms.

Where do signed documents go?

Signed documents appear in the Shared tab with a Signed status, and the final timestamped PDF is stored securely against the relevant client. You can preview or download it any time you need proof of the agreement.
